Silver in the home will bring good luck. During the 18th century newly-produced silver goblets and silver spoons became a common occurrence in the halls of the Gotlandic farms.

Where did the raw material for these silver goblets come from? Evidently, any silver hoards, that were found, were melted down and transformed into new objects. In one particular case from the end of the 18th century, it is mentioned that some Viking Age coins provided the raw material for two large silver goblets "which were to remain in the ownership of Vibble farm".
