The stone which dates from 600–800 A.D. had originally been used in a burial cist but, like so many others, recovered from a secondary location. The scene seems to portray the hunting of a deer or elk, but it could also be of symbolic significance. The deer at least would appear to have been deified. Whether or not Gotland was a natural habitat for the elk and deer is a debated question.
